Metamorphoses

fri 21 aug 2009 21:00 hrs

AMOR, PAX Y ACAPULCO GOLD! (LATIN AMERICA 1966-1975). Broadcast in collaboration with Het Platenblad, a magazine for vinyl collectors in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Under the name of ‘AMOR, PAX Y ACAPULCO GOLD!’ an overview appeared in Platenblad #165 (July 2009 edition) of no less than the 50 most interesting LPs brought forth by Latin America in the (psychedelic and progressive) period of 1966-1975 voortbracht. This episode of Metamorphoses focuses on a large number of records from that overview. As such, you can hear music by garage and beat pioneers like Los Ovnis (Mex)(picture above), Kano Y Los Bulldogs (Uru) (picture below), Los Mac’s (Chi) and Los Speakers (Col). Brazil of course is well known for its Tropicalia movement, of which representatives like Os Mutantes, Som Imaginario and Liverpool mixed their own musical traditions with western rock, pop and a nice splash of psychedelics. In the early 70s, the Argentinan underground circuit proved fruitful breeding ground for bands that drew from psychedelic folk, prog and hardrock. Miguel Abuelo Y Nada, Los Barrocos, Almendra and Miguel Cantilo Y Grupo Sur were among the most interesting exponents. Other groups that you can hear during this 90-minute long exploratory expedition are Grupo Amigos (Pe), LimoNada (Uru), Génesis (Col) Toncho Pilatos (Mex) and Náhuatl (Mex). TURN ON, TUNE IN, PSYCH OUT!
