WANDERING AROUND JEWISH MUSIC: 1/ Nikitov 100% puur passIon by Niki Jacobs. 2/ Chants et musiques des mondes Judaïques by Adama. 3/ Live from Budapest by Roby Lakatos. Produced by Cobie Ivens.

1- Nikitov.
Singer Niki Jacobs has broadened her musical horizons far beyond the Yiddish tradition. Her mission began more than twenty years ago from the desire to have the Yiddish that used to be heard in our streets, resound in Dutch theatres and of course far beyond. Together with her ensemble, she uses her music to build a bridge between the Europe of the past and the music lover of today. She wrote the strong arrangements of the album 100% puur passie for her ensemble, in which viola, cello and trumpet play an important role.

2- Amada.
It is from the chaotic history of the Jewish people that the group Adama draws its inspiration. It consists of singers, dancers and musicians of different origins. Adama nourishes its memory from the promised land and offers us pure folklore, enriched, in the course of the exodus, with Yemenite, Russian, Polish and Spanish sounds. The repertoire is imbued with thousands of years of past and brings together in an essential way the treasure of Jewish folklore.

3- Roby Lakatos.
Hungarian violinist Roby Lakatos is a direct descendant of Janos Bihari (1764-1827), nicknamed by Beethoven and Liszt as the ‘king of the gypsy violinists’. Roby Lakatos gave his first public concert at the age of nine. He studied classical violin at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest and from 1986 to 1996 he performed regularly in a Brussels club. Yehudi Menuhin admired him and always came to listen to him when he played in Brussels. As a composer, classical violinist and gypsy violinist, Roby Lakatos feels at home in Hungarian folklore as well as in classical music and jazz. The music on the CD Live from Budapest is brilliant. The virtuoso violin playing is phenomenal, incredibly musical and also technically perfect.
