The history of 21st century opera: 1924.
The opera landscape is varied in 1924, and that is how we like it. We get traditionalism from Emmerich Kálmán and Franz Schreker, but also a Nordic theme from Feliks Nowowiejski and Leevi Madetoj.
There is a sincere Ukranian opera (although posthumously) composed by Mykola Lysenko. The audience’s taste is changing, and this has an impact on the production of operas.
This episode has fragments from:
• Emmerich Kálmán- Gräfin Mariza
• Franz Schreker- Irrelohe
• Feliks Nowowiejski- Legenda Bałtyku (the legend of the Baltics)
• Leevi Madetoja- The Ostrobothnians (Pohjalaisia)
• Mykola Lysenko- Taras Bulba (Тарас Бульба)
