Opera in the 20th century

The history of twentieth century opera. 1984A.

1984: there is no escaping modernism. It existed, but not in a permanent and settled way. There is minimalism too. Philip Glass’ best years are yet to come, but he is already producing entertaining and unconventional operas. Also less famous names are producing quirky pieces.

Picture: Peter Schickele
