Today we pay attention to The Ideal Bread; an ensemble that is devoted to performing compositions by Steve Lacy. Next to the fact that he was an innovating soprano saxophone player, Lacy was also a revolutionary composer. In his compositions, Lacy bridged between bebop and modern classical music. The performances by Ideal Bread are typical for them but without losing track of the characteristic style of Lacy.
The Ideal Bread was founded in 2006 by Josh Sinton, who was a student of Lacy’s from 2002 to 2004. Next to Josh Sinton on baritone saxophone, the other members are cornetist Kirk Knuffke, bass player Reuben Radding and drummer Tomas Fujiwara.
The Ideal Bread is a tribute to this revolutionary musician. The ensemble has released three albums up to now.
