Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.
Music to cause Wanderlust, or just to dream about it at home. About the remote places which will always be tempting. Whether it is about an exotic trip to the moon with a rocket or a super slow trip to China in a boat. With The Four Freshmen, we drive on the road of Route 66 which stimulates the appetite, and with singer/guitar player Clarence Garlow we drive – just before he chose to be a mailman – on a different highway: ‘Route 90’. A very special recording lets you hear the Ramblers with the American singer Hal Yates (conductor Theo Uden Masman thought it was one of the best recordings of his orchestra), for Billie Holiday it became ‘Trav’lin’ all alone’, the Dave Brubeck Quartet plays compelling jazzy in ‘Let’s get away from it all’ by Matt Dennis. And than we also set off with: Dinah Washington, Blind Willie McTell, Brenda Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and Grandpa Jones. In short: fasten your seatbelts (it’s gonna be a bumpy night 🙂 )
