Magnificent memories of the grand composer. During a wonderful vacation in the dacha of his benefactress Nadezhda von Meck, Tchaikovsky could regain his energy again after having completed his big violin concert. He started composing again, resulting in Souvenir d’un lieu cher.
Souvenir de Florence is a wonderful musical materialization of his experiences in the historical Italian city. Here, he completed his opera Queen of Spades and in the time he had left in sunny Italy, he managed to compose a lovely, sometimes melancholy piece for strings.
