Today, we delight in the phenomenal Ian Bostridge, singing Brahms.
Tenor Ian Bostridge is considered a sensation in the romantic ‘Lieder’ repertoire. His clear, light and typically English timbre really harmonises with the lyrical musical language of Brahms and his German pronunciation is wonderfully articulated.
He put together a wonderful recital, together with the amazing accompanist and musicologist Graham Johnson, which opens with the well-known Lieder und Gesänge, op. 32 (a relatively early work from the master) with ‘Wie rafft ich mich auf in der Nacht’ and ‘Wie bist du, meine Königin’. He wrote the Vier Lieder, op. 96 and the Lieder op. 105, 106 and 107 in the 1880s, which is during the later part of his career.
We end this episode of Radio Romantica with a mix of Lieder (from differerent opuses).
