This episode: one of the biggest and best-known symphonies from Romantic composer Tchaikovsky and a wonderful orchestral work from Rimsky-Korsakov.
Today, we will listen to one of the best-known symphonies from the Romantic period: the fourth symphony from Tchaikovsky. For this, we have chosen the legendary 1984-recording of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the then still very young Mariss Jansons. It brought fame to the orchestra and made Jansons a well-established name within the Russian repertoire.
In addition, we play you the 1984 recording of ‘Capriccio Espagnol’ from Rimsky-Korsakov. A brilliant orchestral work which gives the wonderful Montreal Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Charles Dutoit, a chance to shine.
