Carl Reinecke’s octet for wind instruments and a piano quintet from Hans Huber.
An hour of Radio Romantica with two unfamiliar composers. We start with Carl Reinecke’s Octet for wind instruments by the illustrious ensemble Villa Musica, with big names like Marie-Luise Neunecker and Sergio Azzolini. Reinecke was very important to the German music scene of the 19th century and very productive, though somehow his name and music didn’t remain popular over time. The same goes for Hans Huber (photo). He was a leading figure in the Swiss music scene around 1900, but his many compositions didn’t stay in the repertoire. Let’s counter this and value them properly.
