Episode 12: A musical trip through Europe
Following the Eurovision Song Contest, the European Elections and the UEFA European Championship are just around the corner. It’s the perfect time for a musical journey through Europe: from Amsterdam to Athens, Bremerhaven to Budapest, and Tarifa to Tromsø.
Nearly half a century before Joost Klein’s ‘Europapa’, British pop musician Jona Lewie paid an unforgettable tribute to the European continent with ‘Hallelujah Europa,’ much like Kraftwerk did with ‘Trans Europe Express’. Since then, The Nits have expressed their European touch in the trilingual ‘Adieu, Sweet Bahnhof,’ Henny Vrienten captured the heartbeat of Rome, and Manu Chao’s ‘Clandestino’ portrayed the lives of ‘sans papiers’ asylum seekers.
Just like Eleni Vitali, who gives a voice to Greek Sinti. Our journey ends at the ‘La gare d’Amsterdam’, where Les Gueux entertains waiting train travelers. Bon voyage!
