Joik meets jazz.

Joik is the name for a special kind of singing that is traditionally performed by the Sami, the nomadic people that live in the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Most joiks are sung without words and are made up of repetitive sounds that express a connection with the spirited nature. Today, joiks are often combined with electronics and dance beats, but the Norwegian Sami Inga Juuso started an unusual collaboration with jazz bass player Steinar Raknes. They made two cds together as a duo named Skaídi, until Juuso passed away in 2014.
