Alphonse Ardoin was born in 1915. As a child he had the nickname Bois Sec ("dry wood") because he had the reputation to be the first to take shelter in the cotton fields when it suddenly began to rain.
Alphonse Ardoin chose his intrument early on: the button accordion, a traditional instrument in his family. But music stayed on the sideline until the fourties. In those days he started to play regularly at dance parties and on the radio. In 1966 he was on the programme of the prestigious “Newport Folk Festival”. On his way home of the festival he stopped for the recording of his first album in Virginia: "Les Blues du Bayou" and it was a great success.
