The Last Century

The guitar in the previous century XII. A monthly series featuring guitar music from the previous century, with each episode including a guitar concert. Today we pay attention to several composers from our own country.

We start with an early work by Louis Andriessen (1939-2021), the only work he wrote for classical guitar. The guitar concerto of this episode is by Annette Kruisbrink (1958), who is especially known for the great musical diversity in her oeuvre. Joël Bons (1952) was, among other things, a guitarist in the Nieuw Ensemble, the ensemble for modern music that he co-founded himself. Not much is known about Hans de Heer (1927-2002). Thanks to his friendship with guitarist Koos Tigger, he wrote many works for guitar. The program concludes with music by Guus Janssen (1951), who feels at home in both classical music and jazz.

Program details:

1. Louis Andriessen. Triplum per chitarra. Wim Hoogewerf, guitar.

2. Annette Kruisbrink (photo). Concerto for guitar and orchestra. Jan Bartlema, guitar. Zwolle Chamber Orchestra conducted by Daan Hillen.

3. Joël Bons. Variations. Amsterdam Guitar Trio.

4. Hans de Heer. Sonatine for flute and guitar. Magdalena Kuhn, flute. Julian B. Coco, guitar.

5. Guus Janssen. Wandelweer. Amsterdam Guitar Trio.
