People remember Harold Mabern, who was born in Memphis, as the most prominent post-bop pianists ever. He mainly taught himself to play, but he also learned from Charles Thomas and Phineas Newborn Jr. He didn’t have money to go to the conservatory; luckily, he received private tutoring for a few months. In the years that followed, he practised 12 hours a day.

In the past years, he toured around the world and worked with the Count Basie Orchestra, Solange Knowles, and Bob Dylan.
