Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.
We will set off energetically with Matt Dennis (‘Let’s get away from it all’) and Glenn Miller (‘Anchors away’), quietly enjoy Hoagy Carmichael (‘Memphis in June’) and, against the odds, will hear Wendy Mae Chambers plays ’New York, New York’ on her Car Horn Organ wit .
Rolling Stones’ ‘Route 66’ is premiered in the Palace and, totally different, Nelson Riddle with ’Theme from Route 66’ and Rudi Shuricke who will sing a sentimental German song about an island built of dreams.
Also: Chet Baker, Bobby Darin, Die Drei Traveller (‘Ich hab’ noch einen Koffer in Berlin’), Esther Philips, from the early days of jazz Ben Selvin and ‘gentleman-comedian’ Kees Pruis, who creates a Swiss landscape in his own tiny garden, which cannot but cause trouble.
So: a journey around the globe and through the music of the past.
