“The influence of Pierre Boulez” is the topic of this themed broadcast.
Boulez was one of the most important composers from the post-World War II era until his death in 2016. Even in the twenty-first century, composers continue to be inspired by his music, as evidenced by Philippe Manoury’s B-Partita from 2016 and Augusta Reed Thomas’ In My Sky At Twilight from 2002. Both pieces are combined tonight with one of Boulez’s great masterpieces, Pli selon pli, which he began in 1957 and finally completed in 1987.
