This episode of Theme is fully dedicated to American-Dutch composer Peter Adriaansz.
Adriaansz’ work cannot be compared to anything in the Dutch music scene. There is common ground with Americans such as La Monte Young, Alvin Lucier and James Tenney though, but those possible influences have long since been assimilated. Adriaansz approaches his microtonal sound sequences like a scientist: all elements of the concept need to be right. Despite the rational starting point, Adriaansz’ music does induce emotion.
