To give another boost to all woodwind players of the Netherlands, Radio Romantica today will be all about music for woodwind. French music, that is, from the late 19th century, when Paris saw an enormous revival of flute, oboe, fagot and clarinet.
The respectable conservatoire appointed good teachers for the instruments and in part because of this, a small army of instrument makers gathered in the French capital, who to this day still set the tone. Think Buffet-Crampon, Lot of Marigaux. The through and through French wind quintet Le Concert Impromptu plays mysic by Lefebvre, Pessard and Pierné. And our own Hexagon Ensemble makes another appearance with Debussy.
