Alto saxophone player Julian ‘Cannonball’ Adderley lived from 1928 until 1975. He was regarded as the successor to Charlie Parker which certainly applied in technical terms. However, his play was more ‘bluesy’ than his predecessor’s and that’s why he was considered to be ‘hard bop’. Pieces with a quintet in which tenor player John Coltrane and with a sextet in which his brother cornet player Nat Adderley. The recordings are from 1959 and 1963.
