Pianist Horace Silver (1928) is known as one of the founders of the style of hardbop. This developed as a reaction to bebop, but the hardbop would go on to reach out to a much larger audience. To that end, elements from blues and soul music were also used. Silver became a prominent composer within this style. Today part 1, with trio recordings from 1952 and 53.

Pianist / composer Horace Silver (1928), part 2. In 1954 he formed a band with percussionist Art Blakey that would create a furore for multiple decades, in changing strength: The Jazz Messengers. Today, the first record of this quintet with exclusively Silver compositions.
