Allen Eager – A tenorist who has been mostly forgotten. In the 40s, tenor saxophone player Allen Eager was a well known and much wanted musician who, after working in bigbands for a while, performed in lots of smaller groups. In 1946, at age 19, he was able to record his first records under his own name for Savoy with a quartet. The first highlight of his musical career formed an engagement at the Tadd Dameron Sextet in 1948. Towards the end of the 50s, Eager, who had settled in Paris in the meantime, went more and more into the background. In this episode, recordings from his first succesful period.

Tenor saxophone player Clifford Jordan (part 5). In the final episode of this series two more obscure 1961 albums will be given a chance. On “A Story Tale” he crossed swords with alto saxophone player Sonny Red and on “Starting Time” the tasteful legendary trumpet player Kenny Dorham was present.

Ever since Bob Brookmeyer moved from Kansas City to New York in 1952, he has busied himself with (aside from piano and later valve trombone) composing and arranging. In recent years it has mainly been European orchestras that have profited from this, such as The New Art Orchestra that came about in Lübeck. Brookmeyer hopes to celebrate his 80th birthday towards the end of next year.
