Like the American singer/songwriter Somi, the popular reggae singer Tiken Jah Fakoly from Ivory Coast, a project of Ensemble Multifoon led by composer Sinta Wullur, the album ‘Mounqaliba’ by Natacha Atlas, Senegalese world music by singer Cheikh Lo and some catchy songs by the Algerian singer Souad Massi.

House of Hard Bop

The American baritone saxophone player Gary Smulyan (1956) started as top chef but decided to become a musician after all and with reason. He started in the orchestras of Woody Herman and Mel Lewis-Thad Jones. His big model was Pepper Adams. In 1991 the first CD under his own name was released with fellow wind player, the famous trombone player Jimmy Knepper. A fine combination of two excellent low wind players in a quintet.
