The Very Next is a medium-sized band consisting of a singer, six wind instrument players and a strong rhythm section. They play raw soul jazz with a New Orleans touch, but with their own repertoire. Live recordings from October 2011.

Orchestra leader, composer and pianist Duke Ellington (1899-1974) part 25. Billy Strayhorn (1915-1967) was Ellington’s right hand for many years, as composer, arranger and pianist. In 1967 the Ellington band recorded an album with works by Strayhorn, as a tribute to this master who had just recently passed away.
