Between Swing and Bop

During his short life trumpetist Lee Morgen (1938-1972) belonged to the trendsetting musicians within the hard bop scene. As from 1956 he made records for Blue Note and played with the Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers among others. In 1960 he made recordings with his own quintet for the label Vee-Jay, we hear him play including saxophonists Clifford Jordan and Wayne Shorter.
