The legendary pianist and composer Thelonious Monk (1917-1982) part 11. Quartet recordings from the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and studio recordings from Bussum (1961). Recently published by the Dutch Jazz Archive.

Jazz, blues and nostalgia. Theme: ‘Miracles 1915’.

During his short life trumpetist Lee Morgen (1938-1972) belonged to the trendsetting musicians within the hard bop scene. As from 1956 he made records for Blue Note and played with the Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers among others. In 1960 he made recordings with his own quintet for the label Vee-Jay, we hear him play including saxophonists Clifford Jordan and Wayne Shorter.
