The trombone is central, part 5. This hour features American trombonist Roswell Rudd (1935), he was one of the first ‘free’ improvisers on this difficult instrument, without forgetting the tradition. Recordings from him as a sideman and as a band leader from 1962-2000.

Count Basie (1904-1984), conductor, composer and pianist. In his heydays his orchestra performed in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 1956, with many legendary star soloists. Recently released on CD by the Dutch Jazz Archive.
