The legendary pianist and composer Thelonious Monk (1917-1982), part 13. Quartet recordings with tenorist Charlie Rouse from 1967/1968, and with tenorist Paul Jeffrey from 1975.

English pianist and composer Alexander Hawkins (1981). Recordings from 2014 with his trio, and afterwards with his sextet with own work. The Alexander Hawkins Ensemble performs at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam on 27 February 2016.

An interesting occasional trio: German Turkish singer Esra Dalfidan with 2 Dutch musicians: alto saxophonist Yuri Honing and pianist Jeroen van Vliet. Improvisations with influences from world music will receive attention. Concert recordings with mainly own work from August 2014.

Part 13: Fort Apache Band by Jerry and Andy Gonzalez. Trumpetist and conga player Jerry thought of the term Latin Jazz. Recordings of the predecessor of the Fort Apache Band, and afterwards this orchestra.

American pianist Robert Glasper (1978) with his trio. He is one of the most important younger talents with a jazz idiom that also refers to neo soul, gospel and R&B. Live recordings of a concert in Rotterdam from 2006.

The American saxophone player Archie Shepp (1937) counts as one of the most important representatives of ‘free jazz’ as it was developed in the sixties. His quartet with trombone player Roswell Rudd (1935) is a prime example hereof. Live recordings in San Francisco from 1966.
